About the US International keyboard

The US International layout is a normal US keyboard that adds dead keys. You press an accent key such as ' " ` ~ or ^ and then a letter to get characters like é, ü or ñ. Press the accent key and the Space bar to type the accent itself. Alt Gr combinations add more symbols.

The tester follows the physical key you press, so it shows whether the key itself works. The character that appears in a document depends on the layout selected in Windows or macOS. If the right key lights up but the wrong character appears, change your language setting. Our guide to the keyboard layout explains the standard rows and special keys.
